The power of the team

One of the words that sounds the most at the Psoe de Xàbia headquarters is team. The candidacy headed by José Chulvi began working hand in hand in February to prepare the program and the campaign in which they are now fully immersed.

We entered a packed room. Of people, work and joy. On the one hand, a large group of affiliates puts ballots in envelopes, organizes logistics and merchandising while listening to one of the amusing anecdotes about Pepa La Guapa, a signing that raises anyone's spirits.

At another of the tables we find Vicent Miralles, Isabel Moreno, Kika Mata and Alberto Tur preparing their interventions for the Duanes rally.

Isabel –one of the new faces in the socialist team- talks about educational projects. You can tell that it is a subject that he is passionate about and dominates. Not surprisingly, she has more than three decades of experience in the world of teaching, many of them as director of the CEIP Port; and who knows the educational concerns and the points to promote to turn the classrooms into motivating spaces, of good coexistence and with training adapted to the local labor market.

Reinforcement in the training cycles, better organization in the accesses to the centers, how to support those who study abroad or open the patios after hours to facilitate the practice of sports and of course, the renovation of infrastructures. Discuss how to deal with and solve problems in the works of the Graüll, Mediterrània and Trenc d'Alba schools with Montse Villaverde, who has managed the Department of Education for the last eight years and who has made the Xàbia City Council a flag for its firm commitment to equality, family conciliation and listening to young people.

Vicent Miralles also studies the plans that the PSOE has for the Central Cinema as a cultural space and how to reactivate the construction of the auditorium to -finally- have a space with a large capacity for the powerful programming that Xàbia enjoys all year round.

Miralles is a journalist, writer and teacher. He is also a firm defender of sustainability, of recovering spaces for people and is enthusiastic about an innovative project that will enhance the attractions of Arenal from a cultural perspective: the future Museo de la Mediterrània, in which the immense wealth of the seabed both at an environmental, ethnological or archaeological level.

Kika Mata gets up. She is always on the phone putting out fires. Their departments, Services and Parties, require enormous dedication and energy. Like Kika's. Mujer de acción equal talks with the municipal cleaning company to urgently remove some furniture left next to a container as with the organizer of the presentation of Les Fogueres to finalize details. The time doesn't matter. It is always urgent and she manages it without losing her smile. At parties, helped by Rita Berruti, who also manages health and the renowned social care of Xàbia with great sensitivity, a key flank in a legislature that has experienced a pandemic and social aid and employment plans have been managed for 16 million euro.

Alberto Tur seems calmer, who slowly and discreetly goes over what to highlight from the many plans that have been launched this legislature in sports matters. From improvements in infrastructures such as the municipal soccer field, the trinquet, the sports court or Les Mesquides to large-scale works such as the indoor swimming pool -about to be completed- and the second pavilion, already fully defined and which will respond to the needs of disciplines such as martial arts, gymnastics and many others.

But Alberto's work has also been in many other perspectives: from the training drive, to making sport more inclusive and sustainable, listening to the clubs and creating a brand "Xàbia Esports. Tots a Una” that defines the spirit of a town that lives physical activity intensely and that is very present on the socialist list with people like Rafa Bisquert, a mainstay of the Excursionist and Civil Protection Center, or Marco Perry.

In another work space we see the candidate, José Chulvi. As a good "coach" of this team, he is organizing all the noise that surrounds an electoral campaign - he is one of those who supervises EVERYTHING. And at the same time, he combines rallies, debates and interviews with his mayoral schedule and spends extra time with newcomers to the project so they can let loose.

Sergio Camarasa -cello teacher- and Rosana Sapena -lawyer- (both are debuting in politics) and Ximo Segarra (the youngest councilor in the history of Xàbia and who with his capacity, spirit and efficiency has been assuming more responsibilities every day until coordinating the Treasury, Economic Development, Technologies and the Historic Center) enthusiastically commented on Sergio's debut at the Freginal rally.

Chus Pobes is approaching (another earthquake that does not stop) and she is already nervous in case she has to take the bus to speak in Arenal, the neighborhood where she works with the public, one of her strengths, as well as her speed in roll up your sleeves to help with whatever.

Olga Sales, who after four years as a collaborator of the Urban Planning and Services departments has decided to take a step forward and become part of the candidacy is another of those who seem to be everywhere. The same is organizing with Pilar González and Loreto Bolufer the mailbox itineraries such as the shifts for the provisioning of the rallies that helping in the speeches with their knowledge of all the intra-stories of the projects that the PSOE has promoted this legislature.

Who we don't see is Doris Courcelles. As a good "foreigner" she does not stay up all night. And even more after a day dedicated to urbanizations, with appointments in Balcón al Mar, the Montgó or the Rafalet. She is the best interlocutor for the foreign resident with all the languages she speaks, her knowledge of how the City Council works and her fine humor.

Even the veterans Toni Miragall, Isabel Bolufer and José Luis Luengo - who occupy the last positions of the candidacy - are fulfilling a role that is anything but symbolic. Every day they are at the foot of the canyon actively cooperating in a campaign that wants to add the maximum support to continue turning Xàbia into an extraordinary place.
