The PSOE presents its election list of candidates under the slogan "Xàbia, fem-ho extraordinari" (Xàbia, let's make it extraordinary)
The Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, wrapped up the list headed by the current mayor, and candidate for re-election, José Chulvi
Although the names of all its candidates were already known, the Xàbia PSOE filled the Plaza de l'Església for the presentation of its candidacy for the local elections on May 28th.
The event involved the explanation of one of the main ideas presented by the candidate, José Chulvi, who stated that "this is a project with more force, more experience and more enthusiasm than ever." The current mayor was referring to the managing of the team leading this legislature, with the added drive that the new team members will bring. In this respect, in the first 11 positions of the Xàbia PSOE there are five new people such as the director of the CEIP Port, Isabel Moreno, the lawyer Rosana Sapena, the musician Sergio Camarasa, the journalist Vicent Miralles and Olga Sales who has been working in the management of the Town Hall’s Services department with councillor Kika Mata.
The event was attended by the General Secretary of the PSOE in the province of Alicante, Alejandro Soler, and the Minister of Science and Innovation of the Spanish government, Diana Morant. A video was projected that summarized the intense four years of the legislature, with the main challenges and achievements.
It was a meeting to highlight everything experienced in the last four years (the management of storms, the Covid pandemic and the price crisis, among others) during which the Town Council spent more than 20 million euros in aid for families and companies and employment plans, in addition to lowering the IBI by 17% and eliminating the garbage tax, and a look forward to the future.
That future, as Chulvi remarked in his speech, goes through three key areas for the PSOE: sustainability and the protection of the natural values of Xàbia (with a general plan that will protect 10 million m2), attention to our people and access to housing. In this respect, José Chulvi expressed the importance of "the people of Xàbia being able to continue living in Xàbia. What good is it for us to have an extraordinary town if its younger residents have to leave?” To do this, he pointed out that Xàbia is planning the construction of 153 homes for social rental.
An extraordinary team
During the presentation, the PSOE announced their campaign style which is "positive, showing respect for all other political groups and taking pride in an extraordinary Xàbia". For José Chulvi “these twelve years of government have brought stability and confidence, and this is reflected in an unemployment rate that is lower than the Valencian average and in the fact that we lead the creation of companies in the province of Alicante. If the sad image of a black and white Xàbia that others try to make us believe is true, why would so many people want to come to live, invest and work with us?”
But there was also time for self-criticism, in this case focused on the public works that remain to be carried out "caused by companies' non-compliance". Here, the candidate announced that court of justice has agreed with Xàbia in all the cases and that now "we promise to put in place all the human, economic and technical means to move forward, so that they become just as much a reality as the municipal swimming pool already is”.
Regarding the list, José Chulvi stressed that it is a renewed group, with people who come from different fields of public and private management, “and who bring us experience, stability, talent, and enthusiasm. It is a team made up of people I trust, of "good people" to whom I would leave the keys to my house without hesitation and who are committed to working to make an extraordinary Xàbia together with all the residents. In fact – he concluded – it is such a powerful list that it is just as good to read from 1 to 21 as it is vice versa, because they all add up”.
The evening was hosted by the presenter Óscar Mora and included music by Guillem and Joan Bolufer. It brought together about 500 people in the Plaza de l'Església in Xàbia.
